THE ONE WHERE I WEAR JEANS WITH SANDALS

Sandals + jeans. Does that sound weird to you? It sure did to me, for years, till this Autumn. I never got how it could make sense, either you're hot or you're cold, right? Turns out, we just don't normally get the kind of weather where this would work. Dry, warmish and not windy. Only it did happen for about a week in September (yes this outfit is from September, there's no way you'd catch me wearing sandals in November!). 
 
So I tried it and surprised myself by liking the look. It's simple but it feels right. Do you know the feeling? When you just know you nailed your look that day. 
 
And let's talk about those sandals for a minute. I am in love with them. One of the top 5 purchases this year for sure.

I got them while on holiday in Greece. They're leather, locally made, beautifully minimalist and I just can't get over the colour. It's a very light tan, almost skin coloured. They are the prettiest sandals I've ever seen (they also have a strap at the back) and I've been trying to find leather this colour ever since. I'm on a hunt for a backpack or a saddle purse, let me know if you see one? 
 
The success of this outfit is in the details. The subtle colour palette for example. From bottom to top it's light tan, black, rust and chestnut (hair). Black and a few different shades of brown (and who said black + brown were a bad idea? Not me.). It works and it still feels a little new. I'm already thinking how to translate this palette into a more wintery outfit. Of course now it's more about boots, coats and scarves but perhaps where you live you can still afford to wear sandals with jeans? I have one more sandal-y outfit for you and then we're in full on winter mode. What's a colour palette you love wearing right now?

THE PERFECT AUTUMN DRESS

I never thought I´d be broadcasting cringeworthy acronyms to the online world, but nothing describes my feelings better than a TGIF. Honestly, what a week! My head is in a thousand places all at once. I actually have some news that I want to share with you but I have to wait a couple more weeks before I spill the beans. Anyway, I'll get back to the important bit - the wardrobe. That´s why we're here, no?

This outfit was photographed some two or three weeks ago, when it was still acceptable to wear thin summer trousers in a transitional look. I looove their pattern, but now they're safely stored in the "summer" drawer of my chest. Today I thought I'd share a little update about how I'm finding the minimal wardrobe quest without the capsule wardrobe rules. 6 FAVOURITE AUTUMN OUTFITS

The time of the Autumn capsule wardrobe has come to an end. My first capsule is done, yay! I've actually started wearing the Winter wardrobe last week, but more on that in a few days time. Today, I thought I'd share my six favourite Autumn outfits. 
 
I had a lot of fun learning about styling and reusing items in different ways. I feel like my personal style is starting to surface with this type of closet lifestyle and I really love that.

I've included three of my later and three of my earlier looks. Click the links to see the whole post for each of them. When I put them together, I was quite pleased to see they're not one and the same outfit. I was worried it'd just be boring jeans and a top six times around, but turns out I'm a little more versatile than that. Just a little though :-).

 Hi friends! I've got a quick outfit for you today that I wore last week when it wasn't yet freeeezing! The scarf is new, yes, I got in in F21 while shopping for bits and bobs for my winter wardrobe, which I'm starting, drumroll please, in less than two weeks' time! And I'm still looking for a winter coat! Can't decide between a classic button up or something a bit more... unexpected. Or both? Decisions, decisions. 
 
I have one more outfit to share with you before I start posting about the winter capsule. Have you noticed the festively-coloured header? But meanwhile, let's talk about black and brown pairing. Some consider it a fashion faux-pas, but hey, we don't care about that. Black and blue used to be frowned upon too and look at them now. For what it's worth, I like black and brown together. I mean, I have brown hair. I wear black. It's a match made in heaven. 
 
Also, I can't believe I've not worn this stripy t-shirt on the blog before. It's one of my favourites and I honestly wear it all.the.time at home. So alas, here it is. And it's going straight into the winter capsule for sure. {That's a sneak peek.} 
 
Anyway, because I can't get over this coat problem I have, I need you guys to help me out here. What coat styles are you favourite? Which ones will you be sporting this winter? I want your inspiration!

Happy Thanksgiving to my American readers! And to the rest of us, well, happy Thursday I guess! 
I have a friend who's currently celebrating Thanksgiving in Minnesota and she says there's snow and everything... I'm so jealous! Somebody send leftovers? 
 
Last weekend I went to the Trafford Centre to get a few bits and pieces for my next capsule wardrobe. I won't tell you what exactly I got because I'm kind of keeping it a secret - until the big winter wardrobe reveal that I will post in December.  
 
I wanted to wear something nice and comfortable - because Trafford Centre, especially on a weekend, can be overwhelming, to say the least. I didn't actually realise I was wearing a black and white outfit, until I looked through the pictures at home. I'm not usually one to dress in monochrome {the lack of colour makes me think my outfit is sad}, but all the different patterns and textures in this "ensemble" make it into quite a fun and cheerful look. 
 
There's a lace t-shirt for texture, checked shirt for interest, waterfall cardigan for cosiness and the striped scarf is just a cherry on top. So if you happen to be stuck on what to wear, take out your b&w clothes and mix and match them for the perfect pattern-texture combo. Works with every style.

 There's something about these photos that I love. I can't quite put my finger on it. 
Maybe it's the outfit. Maybe it's that I finally feel settled in with my capsule wardrobe -- two months in. It feels familiar and lived in, just how I like it. I found the pieces I love and how I like to wear them, and, a bit of self praise, I feel like my styling game is on point these days. But you can disagree. If you want to. 
 
Last weekend we went on a short walk through Debdale Park and found this little alleyway of trees - perrfect for pictures! It must be beautiful in the spring, but something tells me I prefer it in autumn. 
 
The thing I really want to talk about today is: scarves. A definite must - as an accessory. Why? Because if you have the right scarf on, you don't need anything else! Scarf is a great way to add a little interest to your look, while keeping it clean and simple. 
 
Imagine my outfit without that pop of red and green on my scarf. Yes, still cute, I mean, cream, cognac and black colour combo always for the win, but + the scarf and you got bingo! When I do a round up of my fave capsule outfits expect this one right at the top. 
 
Accessories can sometimes get more attention than your clothes, which may feel like: "Well I've put so much thought into this capsule wardrobe and all everybody notices is my scarf." But! All it does [the scarf, obviously] is it dots the i's and crosses the t's, you following?, and becomes a part of your amazing look. Accept it. Your life will never be the same. 
 
And so even if you have nothing else, no rings, no bracelets and a boring hair day, for instant success add a scarf. 
That's all I have to say.

 It's still Autumn around here, but only just. There's still a few leaves to fall. 
I really like how this outfit turned out, even if I didn't have high expectations at first. But I followed my own advice from <a href="http://www.katberries.com/2014/11/outfit-10-quick-tip-to-get-out-of.html">last week's post</a> and yay! I emerged from my dressing room {otherwise also known as my bedroom} wearing this effortless weekend ensemble. 
 
As the post title suggest, you better tuck for an effortless look. A little front tuck can really do wonders, for me it transformed an okay outfit into a cool one. 
 
Actually, there are three more things that can take your outfit from zero to hero. The first one is: cool kicks. The second two are accessories. 
 
I made a checklist for you: 
☑ Front tuck 
☑ Great shoes 
☑ A scarf worn in an "I don't care" way 
☑ a beanie {best if it's hand made} 
 
Make sure you hear that last point loud and clear because it is especially important. I mean it. I love a good hat. Even if you disregard all the other points, a well-worn hat can still save you. Never disregard the hat. The hat is your new best friend. The hat is cool. 
 
Now go and use the word "hat" in five consecutive sentences, to prove you're cool also.

There's a little trail, a minute's walk away from our house, and it looks pretty good this time of year. Especially on an intermittently sunny day. I couldn't be more please with the photos, I really like their atmosphere. I compared a photo taken when the sun was behind clouds with a photo where it shone and it made a huge difference. A completely different world. I like your shine, Autumn sun. 
 
Capsule wardrobe forces you to be creative, and one day I thought, hey, why don't I wear this lace top over a contrasting colour {rather than wearing it over white like I did <a href="http://www.katberries.com/2014/10/outfit-1-autumn-capsule-wardrobe.html" target="_blank">here</a>}. So I put it over my trusted red long sleeve top, rolled the sleeves up to correspond to the length of the sleeves of the lace top and there it was! A great combo. It gives the outfit more texture = makes it more interesting. 
 
I previously wore it like that with jeans and loved it, so I tried it with the maxi skirt. Tuck, ready, go! 
 
If you're feeling stuck in a rut and not exactly up for a big styling brainstorming session, the best way to find what to wear is just to try it on. Then try it on with something different. Try it on with something you'd never even consider wearing it with. 
Yes, some combinations will make you look ridiculous, but others will make you look great, I promise. It's my trusted recipe for new outfits when I'm feeling a bit blah. Throw some nice shoes to the mix, get yourself a little present {a coffee or a favourite piece of fruit will suffice}, and keep your head up. New day, new beginning!

 A little bit of everything. That's what I'd call this outfit. Casual, cool, rodeo, cabin, urban, cosy - a crazy combination. The cold weather has arrived and so I put on a bunch of long-sleeved things to keep warm. As a result I created this eclectic mix. I kind of like it, I just picked whatever I wanted to wear and put it all together in an outfit without thinking much about coordination. And it kinda worked!  
 
I wore it last Saturday for a little date day in town. We had sushi for lunch and now that I've mentioned it I want to have sushi again. I'd have it all the time if it were up to me! 
 
I had to throw my winter coat to the mix, because it's just so cold. I had a jacket I didn't wear once, so I'm putting this Bench coat in as a substitution. It's the only really warm coat I have in this capsule so it might get a little boring. 
 
On the topic of substitutions, I also swapped my blue polka dot shirt for this checked one. Every time I tried incorporating it into an outfit it looked a bit off, so I'd just put it back in the wardrobe. Both of these shirts are from h&m and I thought they were the same kind of shirt just with a different pattern. Turns out, the checked one is longer and a lot nicer cut. It adds a little colour too, so in it goes! 
 
My number of clothes is still the same, and I actually <a href="http://www.katberries.com/2014/11/capsule-wardrobe-lessons-learnt-so-far.html" target="_blank">excluded 3 pairs of shoes from the mix</a>, so I feel like I earned this substitution. And, you know, because I'm still figuring it out :-). I found something didn't work, shopped my {stored} wardrobe and swapped it for something that did. That's okay in my book.
