10 x 10 LOOK 2: HAPPY SHOES

This is another outfit I'm really excited about. And it's so simple, I love love love it!
I'm wearing a dress I got in Venice last year, in what was probably the only cheap clothing shop there. It was the one-size-fits-all kind of shop that I don't normally go for, but I'm glad I did because I ended up wearing this dress more than anything else I'd brought with me in my suitcase. I wore it with birks and a handbag, or as a swimsuit cover up to the beach and I thought I'd try and style it a little more city chic in this 10 x 10.

However, the success of this outfit totally lies in the shoes. Those red sandals make the outfit, don't you agree? I didn't really believe that shoes can completely transform an outfit, until I wore these. They certainly pack a punch! Without them, the outfit would be nice enough, sure, but the pop of red is what really gives it personality. They are my happy shoes.

I kind of wish I'd had them for the first look, too - they'd go great with that denim skirt and, more importantly, the red striped top. But I only picked them up yesterday, in my local Tesco, of all places. I had a clubcard voucher for their womenswear department and these sandals caught my eye. F&F footwear wouldn't normally be my first choice, but that just goes to show that sometimes you find the best pieces in the most unlikely of places :) The sandals were already on sale, and with my voucher, they ended up costing me £2 - yay! Yes, they could be a little more comfortable (the sole is a bit hard), but they put a smile on my face every time I look at them. And how often does that happen?

I almost always reach for a more neutral colour for my footwear, just so it goes with most of my wardrobe, but I now firmly believe that everyone should own a pair of red shoes. Whether that's red sandals, red trainers, red ballet flats or red heels, I can almost guarantee that they will be what your nice but slightly boring outfit needs. That's not to say your outfit is boring, I'm pretty sure it's not. Mine definitely would have been.

Now I just have to fight the urge to wear these sandals with all the rest of the 10 x 10 outfits, not an easy tasks, it seems. Do you feel the same about red shoes? Or is there any other colour shoe you think everyone should own? And most importantly, do you have happy shoes?

Hope you all had a good week and I'll see you with the third outfit in a few days. Happy almost weekend!

  1. Thank you, Ika! You know what, h&m has been one of my favourite shops for about a decade now. There used to be only one branch in Slovakia - in Bratislava, and whenever my mum and I went, we always stopped at h&m (it was opposite IKEA, so we'd have a browse there, meatballs for lunch and then get lost in h&m afterwards). At least a third of my wardrobe must be from there. I love their natural fabrics clothes as they're not extremely overpriced!
Hope you're having a great day, xo Kat

  3. Oh thank you Camilla! I'd quite gladly have red ballet flats too! But I know what you mean, I find it hard to find a nice fitting ballet flat too - either they slip off or rub at the back! I like the ones with the strap, just because they stay on, but then they optically shorten your legs which is not something I'm a fan of ;) I could see myself wearing a nice, slightly pointed t-bar, low ankle strap red ballet flat though, I'm not sure but I think Oasis had something like that, don't give up your search just yet! :)

  4. Yes, yes, yes! Red shoes are totally great for neutral outfits. I haven't seen the Clarks collection(I'm checking them out right after I type this comment, though ;) ) but I do love yellow things, just because they're so happy looking. But like you say, yellow shoes might be a little tricky. Mustard yellow would probably work too, but it wouldn't have that kind of *pop*. My local tesco still had loads of these sandals, hope you find some nice red shoes for yourself soon!

  6. Gorgeous shoes! I have wanted red ballet flats for years now after I saw a friend wear a pair, but I haven't found any that fit right or were comfortable enough. I suspect I have strange feet. This looks really nice, I love the dress, it looks so casual and stylish and simple!

  7. I love the red sandals and do agree that they make the outfit! I love the story about the dress, finds like that are fab.

    Have a great weekend!

  8. I need to go to Tesco ASAP! I have a pair of red sandals that I loved wearing with neutral outfits; colorful shoes really do make an outfit! I got excited by all of the yellow shoes at Clarks this season, but they didn't seem to really fit my wardrobe. Red seems more universally appealing!
