MERRY CHRISTMAS

img src
It's Christmas in Slovakia! We celebrate and get and give presents on the 24th here. In our family, we decorate the tree in the morning, so my mum is currently arranging the people of Betlehem under it. Presents will mysteriously appear later.

I love white Christmas more than anything but this year, it's 8°C and bright and sunny. The remains of a snowman stand in the garden, but the grass is green. To me, Christmas feels a little strange when it's not dark. After the sun goes, that's when the magic starts.

We are a family of deadliners and things are often done last minute. Last year my dad went off to get the last of his presents in the morning of the 24th. But wrapping is definitely done an hour before dinner, so I feel very proud that I've wrapped my presents last night. Only gift tags to make now ;-)

Later, we'll have a huge, four course dinner, take cake and coffee and sit by the tree to unwrap everything. One by one. I like getting surprise presents, as well as some that I'd picked myself. Fun fact, I don't like getting socks for Christmas! I do like giving them, though. :-)

What are your holiday traditions and where are you spending Christmas this year? I'd love to hear about your crazy families, presents and food. Merry Christmas!

  1. Merry Christmas! My family usually does the big celebration on Christmas but since I'm visiting from out of town and have to fly back on Christmas we'll be celebrating more like your family this year. We tend to do things last minute too and I think there will be a lot of gift wrapping happening today but I managed to finish mine last night. We try to do the tree wen everyone arrives from out of town so we did that on Monday. Usually we do gifts Christmas morning with everyone in pajamas and then dinner that night so it will be weird to have everyone dressed for gifts haha.

  2. Love your dad's shopping strategy! We've been too lazy to get a tree for a few years (we have a little light-up tree that my mom plops on the table with a flourish), but my family decided to get one at the last minute. We raced to the hardware store at 5pm today (they closed for the holidays at 6!), and found out that the remaining Christmas trees were FREE, believe it or not! I guess procrastination has its perks! Merry Christmas!

  3. I especially like some families' tradition where they have to wear everything they get for Christmas, straight away. Gets quite fun when the first present you unwrap is a thermal jacket and you know there's still an hour of unwrapping to come :) Hope you had a nice day!

  4. That's amazing! I think it makes such a difference when you have a real big tree - the smell of it, perhaps. It's not truly Christmas until the tree is up.
Hope you had a lovely time with your family! :-)
