1x4 HOW TO INCLUDE STATEMENT CLOTHES IN YOUR CAPSULE WARDROBE

I had colourful statement trousers in the past and I never wore them, so with this capsule wardrobe I wasn't going to include any. Then, when shopping for capsule sweaters, I found these checked/dogtooth black and white trousers in C&A. And that's when the solution came to me.
If you want to include statement pieces in your capsule wardrobe, but, like me, you're a afraid that they might be too much and too out there, here is a simple rule:
Pick a piece that's either a statement in colour, OR, a statement in pattern.
I can combine these trousers with pretty much anything, because their colours are neutral. If they weren't black and white, but say, red and green, I'd be in trouble!
Same goes the other way, if I picked trousers that were a solid colour {from my colour palette}, say, berry, I could still combine them with most of my capsule wardrobe without a problem.
Truth is, I love a great colourful pattern - to me it screams happiness and it cheers me up instantly. But I don't love it on me. Solution #2?
I've surrounded myself with colourful bedding, pillows, throws, carpets, cookware, stationary... you name it. I can still be cheered up by looking at my colourful home, while feeling me in my neutral clothes.

Love the pattern mixing you've got going on here and I definitely agree about keeping the color palette neutral when buying something in a crazy pattern! I tend to generally veer toward neutrals anyway... except when it comes to leopard print. Though honestly, I kind of treat leopard print as a neutral at this point, haha!

I used to get these tops (and skirts!) in crazy patterns and all the shades of the rainbow. They're beautiful to look at but SO difficult to wear, I felt so boring pairing them with a plain black or white top, because I didn't know what else to wear them with! So I learnt from my mistakes and neutrals it is. Leopard print is kind of an inbetween, isn't it, it seems to go with neutrals really well and adds a nice touch but it works with crazier stuff too! Although I don't think I actually own anything with leopard print on, what a shame.
