WINTER OUTFIT: DO YOU DO WINTER SPORTS?

This weekend has been been significant in my country's history for two reasons. General election on Saturday (with ambivalent results) and a Women's Ski World Cup race in Jasná, my local ski resort. My family and I have gone to watch, only to arrive and find out the race had been cancelled due to strong wind. A little disappointing, especially seeing how much planning and effort went into the event, but understandable.

You don't know this about me, but I grew up around winter sports. The first time I stood on skis was when I was 3 years old. I spent winter weekends on the hill, skiing with a local ski club. I wasn't very good, mind you and I wasn't the most enthusiastic skier, so at the age of 10 I decided to swap skiing for snowboarding. I fell in love with it instantly - and I was actually good at it! I think my parents were very surprised to see me get up early on the weekends and hit the slopes of my own will. 

Between ages 10-18, I spent a lot of time on the slopes, not on a competitive level, but it felt great to find a sport I enjoyed. Nowadays I don't get to do it very often, living in England for 4 years, the conditions for snowboarding were nonexistent (don't even try mentioning dry slopes). Even back home, my local ski resort got bought up by a huge financial group and unless you get a season pass, the tickets are so so overpriced. So these days, I go crosscountry skiing or alpine skiing instead. It's the best alternative to snowboarding I know of...
